The China Travel Service (Holdings) Limited is the backbone of the state-owned enterprise directly supervise by Central government. It is also the largest travel corporation in China and was established in April 1928 by Chinese banker Chen Guangfu. From generation to generation, it is now a large state-owned enterprise under the direction of the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, and engages in tourism, industrial investment (iron and steel), real estate development and logistics trade. By the end of 2007, HKCTS has 5.1 billion yuan registered capital, total assets with 370 billion yuan. The number of staff has expanded to almost 40,000 people.

  

Travel business is the main business of the group. The China Travel International Investment Hong Kong Ltd. (CTII), held by the HKCTS, was the flagship of the group in tourism industry. The HKCTS is the largest travel agencies in Hong Kong. The travel service has opened 43 branches and offices in Hong Kong and Macao, and 21 overseas branches in 16 countries. In January 2002, HKCTS registered and set up the China Travel International Ltd.. In December 2005, China Merchants International Travel Co. merged into HKCTS. In June 2007, China Travel International Ltd. also merged into the group, strengthen its leading position in the industry. Now, HKCTS has 108 exclusively owned and joint venture travel agencies in major China cities. In March 2005, it founded www.mangocity.com in Shenzhen, to develop tourist resources and act as a platform. The new travel mode led by the group gained wide popularity only in a few years. CTS HK Metropark Hotels Management Co. Ltd. possesses two labels of ‘Metropark’ and ‘ Traveler’, covering regions and cities within Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao. It manages nearly 50 hotels and already has been listed in the World’s top 100 and the national largest hotel group. HKCTS has also developed three large cultural replicas in Shenzhen: the Window of the World, the Splendid China and the Chinese Folk Culture Villages. Ocean Spring Resort in Zhuhai was built to offer auxiliary tourist services, and has become a new tourist destination in the Pearl River Delta region. The Group also invests new resort spots in Qingdao, Xianyang, Chengdu and Shenyang. Its subordinate China Travel Tours Transportation Services HK Ltd. is one of the largest cross-border bus companies in Hong Kong. China Heaven Creation International Performing Arts Co., Ltd. develops series of entertainment and represents the high standards of the tourism performance. HKCTS is also the sole institution to handle ‘Home Return Permit’ and ‘the Taiwan Compatriot Pass’ in Hong Kong. HKCTS altogether provides a comprehensive qualified service of ‘Food, Accommodation, Transportation, Sight-seeing, Entertainment and Shopping’, marking its predominance within the industry. The Tangshan Guofeng Iron and Steel Co. Ltd., in which HKCTS holds a controlling number of shares, produces million tons of iron, steel and rolled steel each annually, and is the largest producer of hot-strip in China. The plant produces comprehensive products which set the ideal standards for technology and energy efficiency. It ranks high among the national iron and steel industry and popular among users. In recent years, the HKCTS has reported satisfying progress in real estate projects in Shenzhen and Shanghai, with the Shenzhen CTS Global House being appraised to be an AAA project by the Ministry of Construction.

  

It has expanded its traditional logistics trading from rail to air and sea transport and storage fields. Among which, cargo agent service has no doubt of its superiority. The Shanghai branch has become China’s largest air, ocean, and cargo transport firm, forming a vast network.

 

Besides, the 1.2-million-kW Shaanxi Weihe Power Plant, held by the group, is the largest thermal power plant in north-western China.
